A California sheepdog named Stella delivered 17 puppies on January 29, 2016. News of what might be the largest puppy litter in California history is spreading now.
loving Judy!!
It took eight people — one vet and seven technicians — to deliver what may be the largest litter of puppies in California earlier this year.
"I remember thinking that the the puppies would not stop coming," said Heidi Schwarz, a vet technician who assisted with the deliver at Barney & Russum Animal Clinic in Fairfield. "I was like where are all these puppies coming from?"
My big brother Ed is the Coolest Cat of All!!
A sheepdog named Stella of Napa is the mother who produced this impressive brood. Stella passed two puppies at home, and then her owner, John Costanzo of Napa Grass Farmer, brought her to Barney & Russum when she stopped passing more.
Schwarz says all 17 puppies have survived and as soon as the mother woke from surgery, they were able to nurse. "We had eight puppies nursing at a time," she said. "It was crazy."
The largest litter of puppies ever is 24, according to Guinness World Records.
