"What a Friend, Nothing Stops the Unstoppable"

Dear Past,
Confront Me!
Destroy my present Life.
Leave me quietly at day light,
return to remind me at sundown.

Don't bother others with questions.
Keep it real with flashbacks.
Exhaust me from sleepless nights.
Make my dreams, Nightmares.

Do you miss me when I forget you?
Are you lonely with just the old friends you have?
Is your pain to singular when I am gone?
Don't you love the silence?

Bring it all.
Don't leave one memory behind.
Invite comments and judgments from past offenders,
to be the audio, to the video that runs in my head.
Tell immediate family to dump it all on me.
Isn't that the job?
You told me so.
Forgetting nothing is important.
Making the flashback live it is so useful.
Thanks.
It irons it all out so well, so vividly for me.

Do I call the men I see?
How about the women?
Are the orgy's still in your repertoire?
Just curious how much further we must go down the lane before we say Adios,
to the other.

I know the ugliness you must have to live with,
when will you give it up?
I mean, really, get real past,
I'm tired, your tired,
you are a worn out record.

Oh, I am so sorry.
I had no idea.
Keep me close,
I will speak on your behalf,
yes, until the end.  I swear.

Love Always,
The friend you will never need,

Me

Cum Hence, Fear Not

Slick back your hair!
With the cum you never leave there.
Hide evidence in plain site.
Place a lamp by me tonight?

I am WHat? Dirty at Night?
Who? Keep quiet. Why?
I have a filthy mind?
Where? Don't defend?

I make-up all What?
Why bother to call,
parental care is never there.
Obvious guilt is entirely me.

Oh wait, how can that be?
Did you not collect money for me?
I hid under my bed.
You removed it from my room.

Left a mattress on the ground.
The closet still looks good to me.
I still hide with no liberty.
Is that guilt or innocence to thee?

Why bother to answer at all?
You never did, you should fall.
Will it bother me to write,
the wrongs that I survive?

Leaving me in parking lots,
just to see reactions.
How old was I when I did not cry?
Stood still, in shock!
Stifled, I rot.

No recovery is made from sin.
Did you kill the kittens again?
My fault, I see, I gave them milk,
instead of the food you never bought.

The fountain at eight fifteen?
Do you think it stands?
and remembers me?
One more photo, yea, it's me.

NO!!!
Answered with privileged nod.
You are mistaken.
I never beat,
the dog, the cat, or the kid.
I am British, it's not my breeding.
I am lost in scandal.

Words driven from two years past.
Silenced by the suffocation.
Present in location.
Mindful of my own vulnerabilities,
don't speak until you can say,

"I have had sufficiency."

Taught by privileged man.
Age Three.

Why Bother The Dead?

The choice to speak will not be me.
I cry and silence myself.
Fear inhabits my gut.
I shake with the sickness of remembrance.

No matter what!!
It won't shut-up.
I can't make new friends.
I don't want to explain my hiccup.

Oh Dear Friend,
Do you agree?
The Golden Rule of Silence,
speaks louder than me.
Body ill, mind weak, heart GONE!!

Get OuT! You return.
I Shout! You record.
I Spit! You leave.
Do you remember me now?

Worry not, complicate this.
If you hold ground like me,
it means, I have found.
Just wait one more minute and you'll see,
I was a baby whore at three.

Hello?
From the dark depths of Hell.
Love Always,
A bell,
that tolls for you.

The expense is high at this time.
To pay for damages of mine.
Don't go to far!
Please don't die!
I want so much to meet your family.

RETREAT!!
No. You cannot go.
To late for all of you.
Memories will hold true.
As your friends from long past,
continue to just spill trash.

As death nears your soul,
confidence wanes.
I fear they have rolled on you.

Worry not yourself,
I don't tell anyone everything.
I speak not at all,
but I will write until I fall.

That has been when, not why, I'll tell it ALL.
Oop's!! Is that the same?
As telling everyone your name?
Don't fret.
Your epitaph will read the same as always to me.

I RED.

Don't Ask, Don't Tell

How young do you need?
Before you heed?
Stop yourself,
and take a knee?

Memories are not all mine.
Advertise and I find,
Men of old, Men of time.
Are you disgraced?
Or are you fine?

My mind goes where you have been.
Don't tell me that you are thin.
I don't care you are old.
I remember your dick,
it did not unfold.

All the moments of why I'm sold.
I listen to the ghosts,
echoing the voice of yours.
I had no choice.

Did you accidentally come across?
What is not an actual loss?
Is it not better to scream?
Maybe we both can find...
Redeem!!

I was a child of no noise.
You were men with money to pay.
Photographs complicate denial.
Don't you wish you knew for sure?
I do, don't ask, don't tell.

Remember that?

In the past few years people have made it impossible to meet them face to face.

Today I came to an enlightenment about how people from my past are treating me.  They all keep me at a distance.  All communication, if any, is on the phone or via email.  I thought to myself, Why do they still contact me but never have time to see me.  I have tried to visit on several different occasions in the past five to six years and they always have company, the house is being cleaned, the pool is in trouble or any number of other excuses.  In the case of my mother and step-father, they put a restraining order on me two years ago.  My mother continues to break it of course.  As far as the other people I know they have just given me the cold shoulder, I call or email and I never hear anything back.

At first I never thought to much about it, but the other day it struck me really hard.  First off it has been a solid three years since I have heard from most of the people I know.  The rest of the people that I do know will only contact me by phone.  The last time that I went to pick something up at a friends house, they left it outside for me to pick up.  I thought that it was a little unusual but then again the entire thing was just different than the norm.  I did try calling several times and she never answered or returned my call, it has been two years now.

Here is my insight.  If you keep someone at arms length and they never have an opportunity to speak to you face to face, then you can say anything that you want to them without them ever seeing your face or eyes.  You can lie, antagonize, drop innuendos, be cruel, take a tone, never get to the point and mostly you can do all of this under the protection of the person you are speaking to never seeing you express your true feelings via face to face contact.  I mean how do you get to the truth about anything?  You never confront people on the phone, or at least I have not done to much of it.  I usually have a conversation with somebody and something will come to mind and I ask them about it.  The look on their face usually gives away how they are feeling about the subject matter you are speaking of.  I know this is a very important observation to make during any given conversation in life.   Nobody wants to make another person uncomfortable while having a conversation.  I have not seen anyone that I have known that would have the answers that I need to find out why I am getting the cold shoulder.  I have not seen my oldest daughter, nor have I heard from her in three years.  Ever since she graduated from Berkeley. She did not invite me and I don't even know why.  My feelings were terribly hurt over this one but I never called to ask her anything about it.  In fact I wrote her a couple of emails about it but never did try to call or see her, I just don't know what to say to such a person.  I worked very hard for a very long time so that she could go to the school of her dreams.  To not even invite me to the functions on the University or Graduation was more than an insult to me.  it was a slap in the face for even existing.  Obviously she does not want me as a parent which is fine with me, all she had to do was take me out to lunch or dinner and tell me like a civilized human being would do, face to face, I can respect that one.  My mother is a cult leader and very successful malignant narcissist so I understand just about anything anyone would like to tell me about knowing me.  With a mother like the one I have you never have to many quite moments in your life if you are a friend or child of mine.  You understand that since the restraining order she had had my youngest daughter living at her house and now my son lives and attends boarding school in San Friends out of her house.  Since the restraining order includes any contact I cannot and have not been able to contact my younger children at all in the past few years. So basically, my daughter could have, in theory taken me out and  have done this with dignity and grace.  You can only do something that impacts another persons life if you do it in person to explain your reasoning for your actions and then the person (I happen to be her mother) has an opportunity or not to change so that they may be able to stay in your life. To just cut someone off by not answering or by absolutely no communication it leaves you or me in this case, wondering what she is so guilty of that she cannot even call or write to tell me why she no longer wants to speak to me or have her in her life at all.

I would think that all of this would be an isolated case, but my father (supposedly anyway) my siblings, my mother, my step-father and friends that I used to have, just will not have any personal contact with  me.  I spoke to an old friend that my daughter had been living with during her schooling at the University of Berkeley.  This person was helpful and it was a delight to speak to her after so many years had passed.  I was invited to call her back and have dinner.  I did do this within two or three days of the invite, I left a message and never heard anything.   So, I called the next time I was in town and the number was disconnected.  I emailed and I got no response.  Now this is the person that was my friend and is an adult older than I.  She does have my daughter in her life and did go to her graduation.  I have not spoken to her since but felt that some three years had passed and that our friendship meant more than the spoiled brat behavior that my daughter seems to be portraying at the moment, so I called.  But, why change the number?  Why not respond to the email that I sent?  Why be so delightful and then turn a cold shoulder to and be so rude as to just dissconnect your phone number?

I believe that it is the same reason why everyone is happy to have my number (I no longer have a phone) and call but nobody wants to carry through and meet.  I mean, Hell, when you meet the person that is causing you to feel guilt, you may turn a funny color and want to puke.  This may give this stupid girl (me) an idea that she is being had.  As far as my immediate family goes (not my children) they don't want to meet at all.  I mean just imagine, "Hi, how are you? I have been doing some thinking and have some questions about my childhood?"  The entire room begins to puke and proceed to pass out after my question.  The End for now, this is all causing me to feel ill as well, especially if I find out I am correct.

This all occurred to me because this cold shoulder  and isolation treatment is not new to me.  It is a repeat performance from the age of four or so.  That is why it has been making me so sick to my stomach.  It is one thing to not speak to a person for a reason, but to not have any contact with them because you need them to stay off balance in life so they never confront you or never become settled with the past makes it all very different.  In fact, it makes vengence seem sweet, especially when you were willing to just drop it all because of the embarrassment from when you were small.

A Story Of Fear

I was in the basement trying to stay out of the way of all of the adults upstairs.  Everybody was fighting and screaming at one another again.  You could hear it all through the floor over my head.  I was over in the corner looking at something when all of a sudden there was a black bag over my head.  I reached up and around my neck trying to get it off but it was wrapped tightly to my throat.  I began to suck the air so much the bag came up against my face and stuck to me.  I began jumping around but whomever had me was a lot bigger and I was not able to get away. They just held me so strongly and kept me faced in the same direction against the far wall of the basement. I was panicking and then I was all wet around my face and I really freaked out.  This person held me so tightly that I just seemed to be moving my feet, I was not going anywhere fast.  It was over before it began. I still am frightened of this memory.

Nightmares

I was up all night dreaming again.  This is a tell tale sign of PTSD. I actually have been told I have C-PTSD or at least that was what I was diagnosed with two years ago.  Normally I have something that helps me get through the nights but I ran out of my prescription and have not picked up the refill yet.

Usually I dream of my step-father killing me. I spend the most difficult time trying to move or speak.  I always am dreaming of somebody killing me.  I wish that I knew why.  It always startles me awake in the morning. Last night it was 3:25 a.m. the first time I woke-up.

I used to have this one recurring dream.  I was in a high rise on one of the middle floors in an office space with those dividers that separate your space from another.  They had a scene just like it in the movie The Matrix.  I would say that my nightmare was because of that particular scene but mine started as a teenager.

So in my dream I would be in the office working and the building would come under attack from masked gun men.  They would make their way up to our floor and break into our office space.  I would stand and look over the top and run out the side door into a narrow hallway.  As soon as I got into the hallway I would start to run.  The next minute I looked up and there standing in front of me was a rather large man dressed all in black with a black knit hood over his head.   You know the kind that the bank robbers use in the movies?  Well, that was what he was wearing.  He was carrying a machine gun.  He would look at me and I at him, pull up the gun and start shooting.  I would feel the hit of each bullet and my body would rock back and forth as I was riddled with the bullets being unloaded from his gun. As soon as I would begin to fall and right before I hit the ground, I was on another floor in the same building and the entire scenario would repeat itself.  Accept this time I knew that I had already been shot dead.  I would look down and there were no wounds, by this time they would break into the office space again and I would begin to try my escape once more. It was always to no avail, ending only when I frightened myself awake.

Sometimes I never made it to the side door.  I would be shot as I turned to get out of the office space.  I was always shot many times and I was always facing the assailant.  I never was shot in the back. I often wondered if this meant anything. In fact, I always wondered what the entire dream meant.  My mother was a dream interpreter and the best thing or advice I could have given you as a child, was do not tell her your dream.  It did not matter what the dream was about, good or bad, she would have some biblical reasoning for you to here. Usually it was why or how you were not praying enough, or why you obviously have dirty thoughts about sex or simply something negative to say along the lines of not following the word of God.  Of course, when the church first began she did say that instead of reading Gods name in the bible, we should  just put and say her name instead.  Just a side note for this story this morning.  Back to business. The preaching about the dream and the meaning would never find the end of a day.  My older sisters dream from when I was a child is still, I'm sure being discussed at the dinner table or in the breakfast room over tea and coffee.  Now, thinking back for a moment, my sister did have a very strange dream. I am fairly sure it was not indicative of her life's failures as my mother goes on about. It was just sadly painful.

Her dream took place in our old house on Balboa Street.  It was a two-story home with brown shingles on the outside.  Years later after we had moved out,  the new owners painted those shingles soy lent green. It was the most hideous sight on the block. Odd, painting shingles such a color.

So my sister said that she was trying to walk down the stairs in the house in this dream that was really a nightmare.  It was not a wide staircase by any means.  But you could hold the banister as you walked down the stairs to balance yourself if necessary.  She said that as she put her foot down on the next step to come down the stairs, she stepped on these spiked sea creatures. When she had injured her foot and could not step, she tried to sit down on the stair just behind her to relieve the pain.  As she tried to sit back on the previous stair, she sat down on these stinging beetles. She said that she could not go forward and could not get off her feet that had had these spikes from these creatures going straight threw her foot.  As she told the story the first time I believe she was sixteen or so and I would have been nine.  I remember curling my upper lip back and thinking why are you telling Mom this story.  You are going to be the devil incarnate in just one more moment.  I could not help but feel so bad, she had spikes in her feet and was being stung on her ass by beetles.  Regardless of how many times my mother has said that the problems that my older sister has had in life, all stem from this one dream not being worked out when my sister was a teenager I still don't believe she is correct.  I feel like we have dreams to tell us about unfinished thoughts of the day or to help us work out what is happening to us that we cannot see correctly while awake. I know that I learned early on never to speak of my dreams or nightmares to my mother.  She would always have the worst things to say to the members of her congregation about their dreams.  Yet they seemed so anxious to tell her each and every time.

I have had several recurring dreams in my life. I have always tried to work them out during daylight hours.  I finally got through the nightmare of the masked gunman. I came up with this idea. If somebody is going to shoot you dead with a machine gun, shouldn't they take off their mask so you can know the identity of your assailant?  This took forever to actually work into this on-going nightmare.  I don't know if anyone else has ever done anything along these lines for a dream.  Eventually, if you can come up with something to try in your dream, you can do it, it just is absolutely pain staking and insanely difficult.  In order to get yourself to say or remember to say the words in the heat of the moment is like moving mud.  It did work once and the masked man stopped in mid kill.  He reached for his mask and as he began to pull it over his head the dream stopped dead, no pun intended but it was kind of nice to finally have something die properly.  I only had that dream a few more times and then I never had it again.  I never did see the identity of the men in black.  The point to the dream I thought was like this, it did not matter where you were working or whom you would ever be working with.  You were going to be terrorized and hunted down to be shot full of  bullets from an automatic weapon and never die.

The next nightmare I can tell you about happened at a younger age.  It was always the same.  I am standing on the bottom of the ocean with my bare feet in the sand.  The water is moving around me but it is very difficult to move very fast. The water prevents you from being able to walk or jump out of the way of anything that may come for you.  There is a reef off to the left side of my body and a large body of sand off to the right. Out of nowhere comes this enormous Great White Shark.  He is swimming right for me and strikes me with his open mouth.  All I can see is his mouth opening and rows of those jagged teeth.  Then I remember nothing unless I am able to make a run for it. When this happens the attack continues until the strike is had by the shark and it always happened the same way.  I am once again facing my attacker head-on.  I used to try to get out of the way but I could not move fast enough all of the time.  Moving under water and trying not to drown is extremely difficult, while screaming for help at the same time. It did not seem to matter anyway, he just followed me around and managed to get me anyway.

This particular dream took years to try to get over. I would wake-up all wound up in my covers, sweating, screaming and in shock of being eaten by a shark again.  What a nightmare.  Finally as an adult I was watching a nature show and it just happened to be about the Great White off the coast of California.  Of course, this is also where I live. They said that when a shark attacks that they roll their eyes in the back of their head so that they don't endanger the eyesight.  Apparently, they strike the victim blindly at the end.  After watching the show and realizing that they had filmed the shark attacking a buoy and some bait, I found that it was indeed true.  Sure enough their eyes rolled back in their heads and with some type of double lid they seem to possess they are able to protect their eyesight completely.  The show was very much on the sharks side, saying that the shark attacks and kills each year were relatively low in relation with other dangerous animals.  As the years passed by I watched more and more on shark attacks and shark behavior.  They are actually curious creatures and just taking a taste to see if they like you.  I also learned that if you just bop them on the nose they sometimes turn away.  You are meant to hit them on the nose right before they open their mouth and they may turn off of their intended victim.  That one made me laugh when I heard it.  It reminded me of myself, easily hurt and very easily turned off of my path in life by being injured by another persons words.  Kind of like being bopped on the nose I suppose.

My plan began to come together for my next encounter of the Great White in my sleep.  I was going to stand as I usually do at the bottom of the sea (and no, I had no apparatus on to breath or wetsuit for warmth, I am in my regular shorts and t-shirt, barefoot).  But this time instead of trying to run to get out of the way, I would stand and face my shark head-on.  I would wait patiently until he arrived at my feet with his enormous self terrifying as he closed in on my life.  My plan went as follows, at the moment he rocked his head back and right before he opened his mouth, I would simply bop him on the nose with my fist.  Great plan! Achievable, practical and a much more simple move under water.  Running away had proven to be exhausting, impossible and down right stupid. I mean who in any reality can run from a fish under the water, let alone a Great White hunting you in down to have a taste of your ass.  Now all I had to do was wait and practice until I achieved my great act of hitting this monstrous fish on the nose.  You know it worked.  It took a lot more restless nights but it did eventually work. But I would spend many hours during the day thinking about my dream and practicing my new move while I played it out in my mind. My idea came together one night, I bopped that shark on the nose.  He stopped, turned and swam away.  That was that, the end of years of horrible gasping for air, waking-up in a fright, just to find I was in bed not at the bottom of the sea being munched on by my own personal shark was over.  Like my earlier nightmare, it did take a few times of this bopping him on the nose, but, eventually I stopped having the dream all together.  It was a little weird after it ended, I kind of missed my shark, lol.  It is a little silly to spend so many years trying to get over these fears of being underwater and then miss the fish that brought them on.  What is really different about this very odd dream, is while I was under the water I could breath just fine while I waited for the attack to come about.  It wasn't until I began to struggle with the shark or run from it that the breathing under water became drowning under water.  With every effort I gave to get away I drew in gallons of water and could not breath at all, but I was quite talented at gulping it in through my mouth.  This is what would eventually wake me up. I would be gasping for air.  When I finally stopped trying to run or get away from this shark and I decided to stand my ground I never drank in any more water.  I was able to breath normally the entire time.

Does anyone else ever have these type of nightmares that repeat themselves for years upon years?

Car Sick?

I went on a ride in the car today and we were on a winding, mountain road. It reminded me of when I was young and we would go to Stinson Beach.  The road to this particular beach is so winding and goes on for miles and miles it is just nightmarish. I don't care how beautiful it is on the scenic California Coast, I would rather drop dead then go on that road again.  There are turn-outs so that cars can pass you if you are going to slow. It is a two lane road and you must be a patient driver to be able to withstand the length of the drive.

What reminded me today of what had happened was so ridiculous.  I became instantly sick to my stomach and in less than a second had a flashback about this treacherous road.  Thinking on the trip when I was very small. The same thing happened, I got car sick, very car sick.  My step-father was driving and I am not sure he had been in that position very long.  He is also fourteen years younger than my mother, so his patience for a small child was not long.  But, I will never forget him yelling at me and getting so angry, saying that it was ridiculous and absurd that I was sick.  There was no reason for it and if I just knew how to look out the window properly (he is British) than I would not be at all ill.

I am not sure of my exact age, I was young.  They had to stop the car for me to puke.  It was quite the inconvenience and I was told that I was doing it for attention.  My mother never defended me, not one time during any ordeal actually.  She sat and smiled at the entire affair. Pleased that she no longer had to put up with such stupidity on her own.  I don't know about you, but windy roads still make me ill.  Now I become more ill because the flashback makes the entire first experience live again.  What a nightmare to keep living.  All because you are never meant to get car sick in the first place.  By the way, you are not meant to make any noise when you sneeze either.  As per my step-father who beat me for any reason he could think of, always at the time of his frustration with life or family or any other moment of rage.

The Truth Of Tragedy

I found out the other day that the members of my mothers congregation knew my father.  I had no idea that the reason for the divorce was a disagreement between my mother and the man on my birth certificate over starting a church.   He did not believe in taking advantage of other people to make money.  Apparently this was my mothers plan from the get go.  I also did not know that the members of the congregation were against the divorce from the beginning, it went against Gods word.

What I was wondering then, was if my step-father came into the picture as a nanny for my mothers children, then would they not have been against marrying the nanny.  My step-father was the nanny before they were divorced and I thought the divorce was over him.  I guess it is all smashed together in my head, it was such a short time in between my father leaving and my step-father moving in.  In fact, I am fairly certain that there was an overlap in there somewhere, which has caused the confusion that I suffer from.  What I was thinking about today is if they (my now parents) are such up-standing Christians, is it not against Gods instructions to have extra-marital affairs?  I am fairly certain of that one and the one about having sex before marriage.  I know the reason she originally got married was she was pregnant with my older sister.  It was a shotgun marriage, it took place very quickly. I do remember she and my now step-father sleeping together before my then father had left the home.  This was all because he had gone away one night and I went to crawl in bed with my mother and was very promptly thrown out by a strange man.  The bedroom was locked after that, permanently.

I was told by my older sister that the man on my birth certificate is not my father. I know that several years ago when his (my father) mother died he found a picture that he thought was me while cleaning out her house.  He went around for several days saying to everyone helping him, "look a picture of my youngest daughter."  Eventually he turned it over and it had the wrong name on it, it had my little sisters name.  He freaked and started to count back the years to figure out if it was possible that my step-father was my father.  After some amount of time and a lot of counting he figured out that it was quite impossible.  The step-father did not come into our lives as a nanny until I was three.  My father felt very relieved that this man was not my father.  It turns out that my fathers relief was only the fact that this man was not my father, apparently someone else may be my actual father, he just does not know who it is.  He shared the entire story with me, it did upset me a little bit and we were on the phone at the time so he could not see my face turn a ashy white color. I was not sure what to say, so I didn't say anything.

I am not sure why exactly I was thinking about all of this today. It is odd to know that in a church that is meant to have a church leader that is an example to all, that it all began around so much controversy.  I can tell you it is most definitely a cult, it is identified as a cult still today.  However, how do all the original members find it so easy to blame my mother for absolutely everything when they were privy to so much.  It was starting to make more sense to me why nobody will speak to me because it seems that I cause a rather big issue.  I have contacted lots of people from my youth trying to put it together in my mind a bit better.  All accept for two of them refuse to speak to me.  In fact, they have told the two that it causes them to much stress and the worry I will tell my mother I am speaking to them.  In doing so they fear she will begin to harass them again.  I know that my mother hires private investigators to find these old church members.  But what has me curious today is what on earth are all of these people hiding?

Out of all of my siblings I am the scape-goat child or blame child of the crew.  I feel as if my older sister and younger sister are the golden child, just separated by seventeen years and a marriage to two different men.  I do not know if that is possible with a Narcissistic Mother, but it does seem to be the character that each of them portrays.  I have always been the child left in the dark or better put, raised in a bubble.  I have always accepted the blame for everything, I never really thought differently about any of that until now.  What are they all hiding and why collectively have I gotten the cold shoulder and the silent treatment from absolutely everybody involved.  It all seem to start five years. Wouldn't it be odd if what I have written about is not just true but extremely accurate.  I know they fear I will write a book about my life.  This is what brought on the "lets ignore and abandon Karen yet again."   I had not written a book at that time.  I have completed one book in the past month, I am still working on editing and deciding exactly what I want to do with it, it happens to be in poetic verse.  It tells the story and is in chronological order, you just would have to know how to read it that way I suppose.

My shrink says that if I wrote a book about my life that it would be a best-seller.  I was thinking about all of that today and I was wondering if what I have written is as accurate as I feel it is and as I am trying to decide how to handle this wonderful investigation into my youth, it continues to turn up story after story that match-up with my memories perfectly.  I used to wonder if what was in mind was true?  I used hope that it was not my life. I used to try to talk myself into the fact that I had just watched a bad movie and that it was really somebody else's life or something along those lines.  The further I go, the more real it becomes to me, that sadly it is my life.  It is funny that they all gave me the silent treatment and the cold shoulder.  It was just like being three or four years old when I was so alone and the exact same treatment had happened to me for different reasons.  Much to long of a story to tell here today.  But, oddly enough it was this treatment that they began to give me five years ago that started the flashbacks and the curiosity of "Is what I keep seeing in my brain really what happened to me, please tell me that this cannot be true." I said this to myself and every step that I have taken for the past five years has only concreted this horrific fact. I wrote this a few years ago and it sure does measure up to what I am feeling today, it is titled, "Nothing Said."

The rolling tape in my brain dead head,
shows pictures of all, they just aren't dead,
in spirit or mind or soulful dread,
pictures showing with nothing said.

I wonder if I had known that it would have only proven it all to be true, as oppose to trying to prove to myself that it was not true, would I have still gone on this journey to find out the truth of my life that was playing in my head driving me absolutely nuts.  Since my mother is obviously into extra and pre-marital affairs, I do wonder who my father may be.  I  guess that is what started me writing today.  Maybe there is hope that I am not totally related to this entire mess.  A small blessing would be the ray of light I need in my life to find out what hope actually may be.  What a sad state of affairs if so many people know the truth of what I have written about in poems and they just will not step up to the plate and testify to it.  My best friend from three or so committed suicide over all of this tragedy.  What human beings will do to hide the truth amazes me today.

The Pain Of Neglect

I have been in touch with an old church member.  She was telling me how neglected I was as a child.  She said that she and one of the other woman felt as if they were my second mother.  Apparently, my mother was so busy starting her new church that she did not have time for me.

I have always known that I spent a lot of time alone. I have always known that I had been isolated from everyone.  I knew that before these people came into my mothers and my life that we spent lots of time in places that I sat by myself and waited for her to finish what she was doing.  It was when I was unattended that an awful lot of negative things did happen.  But, its different when an adult tells you now, and you are now an adult listening to them.  I had never put the word neglect on myself before. I always thought of myself as lonely or feeling extremely alone in this world, but neglect or to say severe neglect brings up this pain in me this evening that I can barely take.  It is not like the pain is new, but it has never come like this before.

It is as if I am filled with a liquid poison and it is killing me on my insides.  For some reason tonight I was hit with such loneliness, the pain of which is unspeakable.  My decision not to have my family in my life is not up for question. I believe it to be a solid choice and I am determined to continue to keep them away from me.  I know that being alone is something we are meant to be able to do and something that we should strive for in our lives.  I know that it is a time for reflection, meditation and to become one with ourselves.  The pain of loneliness in me is different.  It is deep and causes such sadness in my soul.  As if I have never been without it and when this person told me the condition that I was in when she met me, it stifled my existence, bringing such sorrow into my heart.  To have what you know already put into such concrete words by an adult at the time that you were three or so, is almost to much to take.  The pain of so many years made so real in just a day seems almost cruel in nature.  I wonder do people think what will happen to you if they tell you the truth that you are already feeling?  I'm afraid there is no cure for this one, it runs in such a way that I feel unsteady and light-headed from it.

I used to walk back and forth in my room and say, "I am alive, I am a life, I'm not an it." I remember pacing, repeating and pacing some more.  I re-live this in flashbacks.  Does the pain of neglect ever end, or does it just always cause you to scream in silence and live in closets?

So, My ...

My  sister came out to California and we drove an R.V. back across the country to Louisiana, this was five years ago.  It was the strangest trip I have ever had been on. I heard so many times, "I feel so bad you never had a childhood."  I am not quite sure how many times I heard this from her, but enough I began to do a lot of wondering about it.  My sister is seven years older than I am. We had not spent any amount of time together since I was 12 or 13 years old when she had left for New York City to attend Julliard. She never returned from the school, she had a falling out with my mother and I never heard from her until I contacted her when I took off from home.  At 18 I contacted her and spent a couple weeks visiting her in New York.  I had a good time, it was rather intense and not really the person I had remembered.  So, pretty much since then, 1983 would have been the year I visited, I have not spent anytime with her. I was excited when she offered to have me come back and live with her and her family.  I thought it would be a great opportunity to know if the decision I had made when I was young was correct. I did not always see eye to eye with her, she seemed preoccupied as we all did but I disagreed with some of her tactics.

We lasted for two and a half weeks before she left me with her lover in an R.V. Park in Ft. Worth, Texas.  I still don't know why she left me.  I don't even know exactly how she was able to do it.  It seemed one moment was fine and the next she was packing her bag and walking towards the front gate of the R.V. park and hitching a ride back to LA. She took her belongings and some of mine, walked away without a word.  I wondered if it was the guilt of having a lover when she had a husband. I still don't know exactly why, but the guy she left me with was very cool.  I explained I had never driven and R.V. before, that my sister had done all of the driving across the country. She had failed to teach me how to drive this 32 foot monster.  I told him that I would get him back to the Dallas/Ft Worth airport and that other than saying that, I don't know what to say about what just happened with my sister.

He was an unusually calm man. He put his arms around me and gave me a big hug.  He told me it would be O.K. and oddly enough it was.  Together we ended up breaking camp, an adventure when you have never unhooked things by yourself.  We ended up driving to a Motel near the airport. I was to chicken to drive into the airport, as I had only about 45 miles of driving this beast under my belt.  We are still friends on facebook and he along with one other man that I met randomly on a mutual blogging site, have been real supporters of me when I am down.  Thank you for that day, you made a very strange time, a time that I could get through. I was so grateful that I was not alone when she decided to do this to me.

I don't know why I started to think about this today. I guess it's because it is raining and I don't feel well.  I was sitting here wondering what she meant by saying so many times, that she was sorry that I did not have a childhood.  I was thinking back on when she was talking to me as she drove this R.V.  down the highway. She looked sad, upset, guilty, mad, angry and mostly frustrated that somehow I didn't get it.  She would look at me as she was talking and I would say in response, don't worry about it, if you don't know what you are missing, then you really cannot miss it, she got so upset with me. She told me how I didn't understand how much I was missing. I told her, that was the point.  She told me that when Mom was married to Dad, before I was born that they did this and that, I said, "Yea, I know, you have told me several times." She got angry finally and just said that I didn't get it and never would.  It seemed like she was fighting back all these tears and guilt.  The mixed emotional signals were difficult to react to but I didn't know what to say or do.

We had traveled for quite some time. It takes a while to drive half way across the country.  The subject of my childhood had not come up in conversation for at least 300 miles.  But, then once again the subject was at hand.  I finally stopped her and said, "My childhood was had by me. It may not have been like yours or like anyone else's, but it was mine and I did have one." I thought for sure that this would work to stop her on this relentless battle over my lack of having any childhood at all.  It did not end there, it kept going, almost right up to the time she left me in that R.V. Park.  I wonder if guilt played a part in her leaving me. Almost since I did not chastise her for having a lover and a husband, somehow I was flawed and did not know the simple rules of life.  I wonder why she was so heated over my lack of childhood. Then I wondered why at no other time in my life, when money for her was available to do kind things for me, that she never did anything at all.  In fact, the only reason we were on this trip was that I had contacted her six previous to this lovely disaster in my life that I was currently going through. I was grateful for her offer to live with her. Of course, I had paid for her ticket to California and I was paying for everything up to the time that she left.  It was odd that she did not help me at all, I found it very expensive and had I known I would not have gone, it was far more than I had to spend.  She scolded me at the Grand Canyon because I said lets not by beverages here, they are really expensive. We can purchase them at the next town, it would better on my pocket book.  She was inflamed to say the least, she told me how if I did not spend money like I had money, then I would never get money.  I didn't really know what to say to her, so I bought her what she wanted to shut her up.

I am babbling a bit, but it causes me concern in my life, when I know that my life causes people to be uncomfortable with themselves.  I mean I did not ask for the life that I received.  It is as if my siblings look at me and my very existence causes them to be angry.  My younger sister told me that I should take a gun and blow my head off, that it would be the best thing for the family.  I wonder what it is that I am missing.  Seems ignorant I guess, but I believe I have been missing it my entire life.  Maybe that is what she was driving at when she said that I never had a childhood and was so bothered by this fact. It makes me sad to cause people to be so angry at me and I don't even know why.

The Soul Shatterer Continued

As I continue this walk called life, I am reminded of old friends.  I have had a difficult time in the past five years and have lost all of my friends that I had ever known.  At the same time I became willingly estranged from my mother and step-father.  My mother moved in on my family and with my second ex-husband sued me for custody of my two youngest children.  They wanted to go live with their father and so it was not worth the fight in court.  Plus, it would have been the fifth time I had been to court to fight for custody of them.  I was tired, recovering from back surgery for the second time and they wanted to go.  They were 10 and 12 at the time.  I did not realize that my mother had been involved.  Apparently my ex-husband had taken my children to my mothers house in San Francisco and she promised them the moon if they went to go live at their Dad's house.  I found this out after the fact.  It was already to late to do anything and my heart was truly broken after finding this out.

A few months had passed after they left my house and I could not take the pain, nor the lies from my family anymore.  I packed up my house and my older sister flew out from Louisiana.  The plan was to drive the R.V. back to Louisiana and be with my sister until I felt better emotionally.  I was very excited and since I am not a believer in children going from home to home every weekend it worked out well in my mind.  I was judged heavily by some for not staying but when you consider that I had lost my home because I was paying $1400.00 a month in child support and could no longer afford much of anything, there were not a lot of places or options for me at the time. So, living with family seemed like an opportunity to heal the past and begin a new future. I decided that a new locale far away from my mother and step-father might just be the answer to my life-long pain.  I had it all dreamed up in my head and new that with a little time this would be the place where eventually my children could visit during summer vacations.  I was also healing from a severe back surgery, so my prospects for work had changed.  I needed to re-think what I was going to do with my life.  Little did I know that I had become part of what seemed like a bidding war.

My ex-husband would call me on the phone and scream, "where is my fucking money."  My mother was calling and leaving messages that I just could not understand, nor decipher at the time.  The only person in support of me leaving seemed to be my older sister.  The man that had taken up residence in my home said that I could not leave. He went to tell me that the house was now his and I was subject to what he wanted to do.  I just could hardly move because I missed my kids so much.  I have four children all together.  The oldest graduated was going to University at Berkeley.  I was not invited to her graduation some two years after this was happening.  She has not contacted or spoken to much since this time I am speaking of.  The second oldest moved to San Francisco at this time to attend SF City College.  So this time in my life I was really excited about finally being alone with the younger two and having some very special times. So the depression that hit me was hard and to this day I am still fighting this pain and sadness of loosing so much, so fast.

It's funny when you look back on something and think about how it all played out.  You would be tempted to wonder, "Well, if I had done this, or, if I had done that."  In my case, I don't ever think that way.  I knew that leaving the Sacramento area was the best thing emotionally for me.  I knew how many secrets were bottled up inside of me.  I knew that my children had no idea about any truth in my life.  I knew that they were only aware of the few things that I had ever told them about my growing up in San Francisco.  My oldest daughter had the most information, in fact, after I had requested of her not to go and live with my mother, step-father, half-sister and half-brother for the summer, she did it anyway.  After many run-ins at the house she finally called me one day and said, "they don't have anything on you Mom."  I told her, "No, but I have plenty on them."  Before my oldest child decided not to speak to me at all anymore, she did come and visit me before I left for LA to ask questions.  I did answer most of the ones I was comfortable answering, but I realized how much I had never told my children.  It became a rather strange day for me, I just had not realized how many secrets that I kept to myself.

Turned out that she had been partying with my younger brother and sister ( I'll refer to them that way, as oppose to the half-brother and half-sister, I find it offensive to myself) going to bars and drinking had spurred her decision to live with my mother that summer. She was only 19 at the time.  Needless to say I was not pleased to find out that my brother and sister who are much closer to my age, were now partying with my daughter.  I confronted my mother on this fact and she told me that they (my brother and sister) were weak minded and that my daughter had coerced them into taking her out every night to drink.  I guess you now know why we parted company or better said became estranged from one another.  I wrote down accounts as they happened in a journal I had started five years ago. I began it at the same time my youngest two children went to go and live with their father.  I started this journal in hopes to not have my life spin out of control, but to stop it before it happened.  I also found a really cool psychologist to have counseling through this very traumatic time.

I was with my counselor for six months prior to my move to Louisiana.  This would have been the first time that I really began to explore the idea of speaking out on my past.  I have always been very nervous about sharing anything of any consequence.  My so called friends, if you were ever to speak to them, would tell you, "Oh yea, we know everything about her life."  In reality, they know nothing about my life.  Although we spoke of my mother often, she was such a hot topic, we never spoke of the real abuse, or the fact that I had been taken to see a psychiatrist at the age three. I never shared that with anyone until recently.  Oddly, I have waited until I have what is in my mind, supported by people who were actually in my life as a child and saw what I had endured. So, all these so called friends that seem to know all there is about me, don't even know what they are talking about in regards to what they believe that I have been through.  The most support, encouragement and forward thinking, has come from the people that have read my blog.

As I read the other blogs, I find myself encouraged today.  Maybe it is terrible to find hope in the pain of the writings of other people, but it helps me know that I am not as alone in this dilemma.  I know that I have a lot to say sometimes.  I know that for years I have gone out of my way not to engage my mind on these affairs.  I know that I had made a decision long ago to just let it all go.  I know that when I was young, I just wanted to be able to grow-up just enough to tell my story and then I changed my mind, as I found out how difficult it is to come to terms with the reality of what has actually happened to you.  I know that I have not kept my promise to myself yet, but I also know that even on a path of destruction you can find healing each day from understanding that what has happened so long ago was not your fault.  I know that if I could tell my story, even if I just write it out to or for myself and I feel this would bring some healing to me.  I know that I watched my mother brain-wash people.  I know that I can write or speak in such a way to explain how you don't need to be re-programmed after being with a cult leader, you need the support to know that what was real, really did happen.  You need to know that these type of people, narcissists or better known to the medical field sociopaths or a malignant narcissist, whatever we collectively would like to refer to this type of personality is very dangerous.  They do speak in a very specific manner which is difficult for the layman to interpret easily.  Truthfully what matters is understanding that with the gift of verse alone, these type of people shatter your soul, destroy your dreams, take from you your individuality and walk away guilt free every time. Most importantly, you must remember that they are repeat performers in our lives.  The benefit we have in all of this madness for ourselves is the hope that eventually, through what seems like great difficulties we can figure this out.  That is truly a blessing in disguise.  Who I feel for with great empathy, in between my own fits of pity for myself personally, is the layman, the next innocent victim, the next member of the church, the person that came from a cult and doesn't know how to heal from what happened. I feel greatly responsible personally for these people.  I am not sure why I carry such a heavy burden.  I sometimes feel disappointed in myself for not acting earlier on behalf of the people that seem to fall victim to this insanity. Maybe its just me, maybe its just I saw to much abuse as a child, maybe its just stupid to carry such a burden for people I don't even know.  But, somehow I feel strongly that my life is my gift, a blessing in disguise, not a curse or something to get over, just something to understand and move on with what I am able to do with such a life filled with trouble. I feel that my service to humanity is helping to undo what I saw done to so many in my life.  I don't know if I would ever be successful at such a task, I just feel compelled to try to help put back into the Universe what I personally saw taken out.

Why Do We Remember?

The other day I was thinking on the time where my mother threw hot, boiling water on my brother.  He was trying to get away out the back door.  As he was making his way through the kitchen, she grabbed the pot of boiling water and through it on him.  It saturated through his clothes and began to burn his skin.  The kitchen was filled with church members and they were trying to grab him to keep him from running out the back door.  I had been sitting at the kitchen table eating some cereal when the entire event unraveled.  As soon as I saw the fight coming I ducked underneath the table for some protection from all the adults that were filling the kitchen up even further.

It was the last time I remember my brother ever living at that house.  I have not thought on that particular situation in so many years.  In fact, it brought to mind another very dramatic event in my life.  It was at the dining room table in the same house. My step-father lit a match under my brothers bottom while these men were holding him down.  It happened in the middle of dinner and I was on the other side of the table when the entire thing began.  My mother screamed "hold him down, light a fire under his bottom," she said.  It was almost as if these events were practiced, they both went off without a hitch.  My step-father was always ready with whatever he needed in hand to fulfill the wishes of my mother.

On this particular occasion I had made it all the way around the table and blew two of the matches out.  This was all before a man grabbed me and held me back so I could not blow the third one out.  I remember his pants catching on fire, he jumped and screamed as he was being pinned by whomever had their hands pressing down on his shoulders. Then my memory goes blank. Similar to what happened with the boiling water. My memory of the incident goes so far and then it just goes blank.  I find it frustrating to relive the moment and never be able to see it to its completion.  Never knowing how the entire incident ended.

I often think that my mind is incapable of finishing the memory due to the horror and the shock of the entire event.  When I think about it along these lines I understand that it just may be to much for me to finish the memory of the entire situation.  But if this is the case then why would we remember any of the bad events of our childhood? Especially if we are prohibited from knowing the end-all result.  Is our mind just reminding us of something to beware of that we are coming to close to again?  Is it just our time to remember old things to possibly come to terms with the abuse and the neglect?  What good is it to remember any horrors at all?

I am 46 years old and have gone through much of my life never having to do much thinking on these events. I put it all into paint cans in my mind.  I sealed each one with a hammer and carefully placed them into hiding.  I kept them secret.  I  had decided at 18 years old, when I ran away from all of this, that it did no good at all remembering that which I can never change.  I also decided not to report any of the abuse or neglect to the authorities because I did not think anyone would believe me.  This has always been a huge sticking point to me.  Even as the years passed and I did try to share a little bit here and there, people would always give me a side ways look and then comment, "you should forgive them."  It was odd how often that was told to me.  Many people even told me that I should begin going to Church so that I could finally find forgiveness for myself.  I have always found that a very odd one to be told, especially since I was so terribly abused with "The word of God."

When I was growing-up my mother would greet me by saying, "The spawn of the Devil has arrived."  She was so pointed in her comments that there was a time around the age of 13 or 14 years old that I did the oddest thing.  I was convinced that I must somehow be marked with 666.  So, I stripped naked in front of one of the bathroom mirrors upstairs and took a good look at myself.  I looked everywhere, in my hair, on my neck, my forehead, my back, there simply was no mark.  I felt better about myself that day but still was very confused about why she insisted I was 666, the spawn of Satan.  I used to be afraid of myself and think that somebody should most definitely kill me if I was this thing.  I had heard of all the acts that 666 was meant to do and it really did frighten me to be this thing.

Being the spawn of Satan or the Devil depending on the which she called me that day never frightened me as much as being referred to as 666.  I am not sure exactly why, it is rather odd when you put any thought into at all.  I remember the nights that they would barge into my bedroom, with two to four church members in tow.  All of them together, my  mother and step-father in the lead, would start screaming Hallelujahs and a bunch of Blessed Be's over the Satanic Spawn, me.  I never woke until they hit the door with such excitement and anger, it would slam against the wall upon entry of so many.  I slept in this beautifully carved, single oak bed.  I would hear the door hit the wall and would immediately sit up on the side of my bed.  The attack in my room would generally last a couple of hours.  It would depend on how all the excitement of the attack drove the group.  I sat in silence, never speaking, I mean really, what would you say?  They would all take turns saying that the Demon of Silence had my tongue.  I never understood all of what they said, I would go into a sort of trance myself.  It kind of shut all the voices out. I used to think while I was sitting on the edge of my bed, "I'd rather be in here with all my demons then out there with your God."

Every once in a while over the years I would think on these times and wonder what on earth they thought that they were doing.  It's strange, as the church members began to fall by the wayside I wondered if they ever thought about what they did to me.  I wonder if they live with their children and have happy lives never thinking what they left behind with my mother.  Do they ever think that they are also responsible for the abuse and neglect I suffered?  Or, do they believe that now they are free of my mothers clutches that they are also free of the responsibility of the acts that they committed?  I know that their children have had to go through extensive therapy.  I know that there children tell the therapists of satanic worship, drugs in the tea, of being in my mothers bathroom, of being laid out on a table in front of the congregation, of hours of being yelled at and screamed at, of being locked in the basement of the Church building, inside of an old elevator in the pitch black.  I know that my best friend did not make it, he committed suicide.  I know that his sister is one of the ones that does tell of these things.  I know that everyone believes that I should just magically move-on, while the children of these members are still in weekly therapy, still talking of these very dark times.

How am I meant to move-on when it is their parents that were part of the horrors of my life.  If the children of the Church members are still having troubled lives, unable to work or function at any kind of level, how am I expected to just drop it and get over everything?  Is it because people believe since I am the daughter of the monster herself, I can just march on through being called a whore, a dirty girl, beaten, raped, manipulated, locked-up, called a thing, an it, surviving incest and severe neglect.  I suffered all of this so that this stupid church could be started and they could live enlightened lives at the time. Did I suffer through them taking up all the time with my mother as if she was there mother, to just live an adult life with the nightmare of it all. They were unable to make a move without her approval or say so.  I know that this is what makes this a cult.  But, what I am asking is, do these same people think about everything they did to me while they were carrying out the orders of my mother on me?  I am not saying that their children are not damaged, for Christs sake they are not that much younger than I am.  In fact, some of them are older than I am.  What I am trying to say is, are these members not also responsible for the damage and bad memories I am having today? I am the only one in my family that has no contact with any of them. So, I am all alone in this world.

I went half of my life moving forward and never talking of the abuse and neglect.  I did not think it would do any good, since my abusers were my parents.  I mean think about it, where would you turn for support or even help.  As the members abandoned her, they would cut off all communication with all of us.  As if somehow I was going to go and do something cult like to them.  In fact, at one time I tried to contact a few of them just to ask them why they did the things that they did to me. I wanted to know if now they believed that it was wrong.  (It was so unfair.)  All they could do is ask me how I got their phone number and did I know their address.  They said that they were worried I would give the information to my mother.  I had told them that I had looked them up personally for my own well-being and hopeful healing.  Again, all they were worried about was that I would tell my mother I had spoken to them and that she would soon be calling them again.  They said that they had finally been able to get their family out of the clutch of the church and wanted nothing further to do with it or anyone related to her.  I told them that I had no support because as they already knew I had been the defiant one since I was young.  They wished me luck and said that my mother was to powerful.  They said they could not help me because they had been under her manipulative control for all those years.  They went on very quickly, saying that they had already lost years of their life, that their children had lost out on having parents and it was time to end things with this time in their life.  I didn't know what to say at the time, so, I hung up the phone with none of my questions answered.
